The Danger of Not Addressing a Severely Broken Tooth

Posted on 5/17/2017 by Dr. Brahmbhatt
A woman suffering from a severely broken tooth.
When you are suffering from a severely broken tooth, it can cause a lot of issues. It can hurt, harbor bacteria, cut your mouth, and more! Even if that tooth breaks down to the gums and the gums heal over what is left of the tooth, you are still not out of the woods. You need to make sure you are taking all precautions necessary if you suffer from a broken tooth. It could leave you in a very dangerous situation down the line.

A Severely Broken Tooth Can Keep Hurting You

When a tooth breaks, the edges left behind are jagged. They can continue to cut everything around the remaining tooth. This includes the gums, tongue, insides of your cheeks, and it can even cut the other teeth around it if it pushes into them. This can introduce bacteria into your system, and could result in you getting very ill.

On top of that, the bacteria that are holding up in that tooth could turn into an abscess. This puts a full-blown infection into your body, and it requires a heavy-duty antibiotic to fight it.

An abscess is no light matter, and it needs to be taken very seriously if it happens. If you were to get a severely broken tooth capped, or extracted, then you lower the chances of facing this type of issue down the line.

No matter why you haven't gone to the dentist yet for your broken tooth, go in now. Your health shouldn't be held back due to fear, embarrassment, or even worries that you may feel shameful for putting off going to the dentist. Your dentist will be happy you came in now, instead of waiting more, not make you feel bad for the time you missed. Contact our office today!
